Philippine Independence Day Celebration June 4, 2011
by Bill Strileckis
On Saturday June 4, 2011 members of PAMAS joined other local Philippine civic and cultural groups, under the banner of PAMANA, to hold a local celebration of Philippine Independence Day at the Boston City Hall Plaza. Each of the groups participated first in a short parade around the plaza, then in a flag raising ceremony, where a proclamation from the Mayor's office was read designating that day be reserved for the celebration of Philippine Independence. Groups such as the Philippine Dance Company performed traditional dances, inviting members of the audience to join in. Vendors from local Filipino owned businesses, as well as groups such as the Philippine Nurses Association of New England, set up concessions offering food, drink, clothing, and souvenirs to the crowd.
